This morning, Hertz car rental announced that it would be acquiring Dollar Thrifty Automotive group, creating a 9,800 location rental-car giant. Combined money and stock cost will make the Hertz Dollar Thrifty merger worth about $ 1.2 billion. The company, which will still be known as Hertz, will be owned 94.5 percent by Hertz stockholders, and 5.5 percent by the Dollar Thrifty investors.

Massachusetts residents who tried to log into masssave.com/residential this morning discovered the entire site was down. Ouch. The Mass Save rebates agency quickly responded, though, by setting up a second mirror site where Masssave rebates can be reserved.
