City approves deal to raze Navy homes

Discovery Park to gain $11.1 million property
The city of Seattle agreed Monday to spend $11.1 million to buy 24 acres of surplus Navy property on the Magnolia bluff -- marking the first time the city has had to pay for land to complete Discovery Park.
In the past 35 years, hundreds of acres of land at the park, originally donated more than a century ago by local residents for a military base, have been returned to the city for free.
